So much suffering can be traced to our natural tendency to turn away from painful and unpleasant experiences, and especially our emotions and feelings.  In this exercise, we learn to turn in and make space for feelings and the energy beneath them, however difficult they may be.  In this way, we learn to space for our experiences and with ourselves.  This is necessary to be liberated from our painful feelings running our lives and to reclaim our inner strength and capacity to chose how we will live.
