John has appeared on TV, radio, TEDx, and many other media outlets to discuss the scientific and practical benefits of Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) and other mindfulness practices to (a) alleviate many forms of human suffering, (b) restore psychological health and wellness, and (c) to awaken the human spirit in the service making the most out of this one precious life. John holds a Doctorate in Clinical Psychology, and is a Professor of Psychology and Director the Anxiety Disorders Research Program at the University at Albany, SUNY in Upstate New York. He is an internationally recognized expert in ACT, mindfulness practices and psychological health, and anxiety and stress-related disorders. He is also widely sought after ACT trainer and consultant and serves as a senior editor of the ACT book series with New Harbinger Publications. John is the co-author of several popular books and regularly gives ACT talks and workshops to the public and professionals in the United States and abroad. He and his wife also offer week-long ACT training retreats at the Omega Institute for Holistic Studies in Rhinebeck, NY, The Esalen Institute, Big Sur, CA, 1440 Multiversity, Scotts Valley, CA, and the Cape Cod Institute, Eastham, MA where he and his wife serve as a member of the teaching faculty.
